The Tudor Coach House

At Equus Bespoke Garaging, we create architectural statements that draw attention due to their flamboyance or the clever and subtle blending within the local vernacular. The Tudor Coach House is one such project. This suburban location is primarily Victorian architecture with some late Georgian and some early Edwardian homes, and all on good sized grounds. However, where available space is limited, and where planning restrictions or clients’ wishes would preclude modern architecture and too large a footprint, remaining in style with the home and proportionately sized is paramount.

Above Ground 1

This collection is a mix of the owner’s passion for Jaguar, Mercedes Benz and Ferrari. Floor space only allowed for a five car garage, but the collection consists of eighteen cars that are driven regularly and one historic Formula One Ferrari that is polished more often than raced. They must all be easily accessible without the need for swapping positions to access others.

The concept began with selecting the appropriate pit mounted, independent car stackers. Each capable of vertically stacking three vehicles and dropping below floor level to give full and easy access to those on the upper levels.

Styling the building came next. Given the historic nature of the building, being a Victorian built Tudor Revival home, the garage soon took on the semblance of a traditional coach house with coachman’s quarters. The use of historically correct building materials blended with modern construction methods produces a building with excellent thermal characteristics and intrinsic beauty.

Upon activating the automated trifold garage doors, sensors detect the vehicle tracker fitted to the vehicle and remember its last parking position. The parking lift then automatically potions itself at the correct level for immediate parking.

Each of the two parking wells are isolated from the central valeting area and upper level entertaining and observation area by conservatory style, steel framed double glazing units.

The structure, being traditional but new provides a technically excellent space but with character and warmth, and ready to be imbibed with new stories. Like the architectural design process, the furnishings and décor are selected by our inhouse designer in consultation with the client and again, are chosen to reflect the character of the owner and their story.

Artwork is very personal. When selecting pieces for a client, we will present options for private commissions or existing works from our many creative associates. For this space, one very special painting was chosen, Fangio in the Alfa Romeo 158 at Hotel Mirabeau, Monaco Grand Prix 1950 by Alfredo De la Maria.

As is usual with our projects, air movement, temperature and humidity as well as fume management is considered in the design phase to ensure discrete and effect systems are working freely and effectively.
